I hope that all of you who celebrated, enjoyed your Fathers Day.

Father's day was certainly memorable not only for my own father, but also for other members of our family.

It was also the day that my niece celebrated her First Communion, which was held in Brentwood Cathedral. It was a lovely event followed by a garden party. The weather even managed to stay nice.

On this day, my father celebrated with his three children from his first marriage, one of his three children from his second marriage, five of his six grandchildren and his only great grandson. What a line up!

Also in attendance were four generations of my sister's inlaws, as well as many fathers new and old.

We also managed to witness the 'fly-by' held in commemoration of twenty five years since the end of the Falklands War, which also served in some way as an honour to all the fathers present.
For me the day was rounded off by experiencing some fathers, grandfathers and perhaps even great-grandfathers of reggae.

I was invited to attend the "Icons of Reggae" concert at the Brixton Academy.

For all of you that know your reggae, in the house were John Holt, Ken Boothe, Gregory Issacs, and Jimmy London.

They performed some of the old favourites such as "Night Nurse", "I Want A Love That Is Real", "Mr Bojangles" and "That's The Way Nature Planned It".

It was mentioned that Ken Boothe started his recording career in 1960, a true veteran!

The vibes were great, whistles blowing, people jamming, the Academy was 'ram'.

There were so many locked and natural 'heads' of all sizes and colours, that I did not know where to look!

I will not mention how long it has been since I last attended a concert, however, my only disappointment was that it was over all too soon!

I should have kept quiet - I have been tagged!

I mentioned on A funkykindaglows blog that I had not been tagged. Two two's and now I have, so here goes.

Here are the rules: Each player starts with 7 random facts/habits about themselves. People who are tagged need to then report this on their own blog with their 7 things as well as these rules. They then need to tag 7 others and list their names on their blog. They are also asked to leave a comment for each of the tagged, letting them know they have been tagged and to read the blog.

Seven unknown facts........

1. I am not a Londoner. Infact I was born and bred in Essex. I was born in Barking Hospital, Upney, Barking and grew up in Rainham, Essex. So I guess that makes me an official "Essex Girl". Although, unlike all those "Essex Girl" jokes, I do not dance around my handbag and wear white stilletoes and my middle name is not Tracey or Sharon!

2. Whilst growing up in Essex I was Convent educated. I attended La Sainte Union Convent in Grays, Thurrock, even more Essex than Rainham! Unlike peoples beliefs, we were not taught primarily by nuns. Infact, I had a crush on my Physics teacher, Mr McCabe, who had silver, not grey, silver hair and piercing blue eyes!

3. I suffer from middle child syndrome. It is a well known fact that there is a syndrome for those of us who unfortunatley fall within the middle of our siblings. Growing up I always felt that I was not the "first and loved" and not the "last and spoilt", I was there somewhere in the middle, with the middle being somewhat insignificant!!!

4. I, myself have three children and have unfortunatley placed my first born son, in the middle. I do, however, have a ten year gap between middle and last sons. My eldest is a daughter who has given me a lovely grandson.

5. I dislike mice and anything that small with four legs. I do not mind spiders and I am a little afraid of heights. I have yet to travel on the London Eye.

6. As a child, I performed in our local theatre in Hornchurch in two productions, The Miracle Worker about Helen Keller and Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dream Coat. I do not think that amateur dramatics works for me as I do not like being on show!

7. Finally, I will try my hand at most things and finish nothing! Three years ago I embarked on an Adult Education course in mosaics. I designed a nice Indian elephant piece, which still, to this day, remains unfinished!

As I have not shown any updated photos for a while, I thought I would add these.

I did a soft spike set and these are the results.

The photo above shows me with the soft spikes in place.

This photo is out in the sun with the curlers removed.

These two photos are the next afternoon at work.

This curl set lasted at least three days. I went swimming on the third day and of course had to wash my hair afterwards.

Self Made and Chuffed!

Oh well, May seems to have gone by so quickly. I have been busy reasearching and collating the Hair Affairs e-Mag, just in time for the 31st May issue deadline.

I must say the emag is really taking off and I am thoroughly enjoying it. I now consider myself a self made journalist, editor and publisher.

I could not of imagined that by taking the Sisterlocks Consultant training class, I would make my career take a turn like this. In the beginning my main aim was to highlight my Sisterlocks business. However, I am amazed at the interest in not only the "hair" but also the "affairs". I have had readers signing up from all over the world. I am really chuffed.

Watch out world, here I come!!!

Yes, I have sisterlocks!

I started them in 2000. Yes, it's all my hair.I got my Sisterlocks in August 2000. Tressie Samuels in Georgia started my locks for me and continued to maintain them for the first year and a half or so.I had already grown out of my perm some time and had about 6 inches of virgin hair on my head.

From the moment I left my technicians salon, I loved it, loved it, LOVED IT!

I will note that I was also ready for the change after the one bad hair experience that 'broke the camels back' more on that soon.

I had been researching sisterlocks for about 2 years before I actually got them (there was no one in Atlanta to do them when I first found out about them).

I had gone through braids, weaves, two strand twists, coils etc.etc.etc. and it was all good except for the fact that every time I would take them down, my hair would shed like crazy and I found my thick natural getting thinner and thinner!

Anyway, back to sisterlocks. They're great. You don't have to grow out of your perm to get them; you just need 3 inches of hair and at least a month or two of new growth. Make sure, MAKE SURE you go to someone recommended from the Sisterlocks Website. Your hair CAN get jacked by an amateur (I personally now some horror stories from sisters who decided to go a 'cheaper' route only to pay twice as much in the long run for someone to try and 'fix' their hair).

Sisterlocks IS an investment. But a worthwhile one. I shelled out $450 5 years ago, but don't regret it not one cent. My hair is down my back past my bra line now. I haven't gone to a hair dresser routinely for about 5+ years (image the savings) and the only reason I did go (the few times I went) was because I had a baby and didn't have the time or energy to do it myself (I have taken the class on how to do maintenance for myself).

Now on to styling sisterlocks, you can

You get the picture.

Another favourite of mine is to set my hair on those Styrofoam rods then leave the big spirals in place (by sliding the rods carefully out of each curl) for a 'Shirley Temple' do. Then a week later I'll pick the curls apart for a big-ole Black Barbie Doll look.

I really enjoy my sisterlocks and would recommend them for any and every sister on the block.Oh and one last note.Be ready for the comments, complements and curiosity.

For my first two years I was amazed at how my outlook changed about my hair personally and how sooooo many people responded to my hair positively.

Then around the 4th year people started asking me if that was all my hair.Nowadays, very few even ask any more, most just assume it's fake.

A New dedicated Hair Affairs e-Mag Blog

Today I started a new blog, which will be closely linked to the Hair Affairs e-Mag. I think I am finally getting the hang of this blogging thing and will be showing you just what I have learnt!

My old blog http://www.pamperedsister.blogspot.com is still there, but I will be focussing on this one and will not be updating the earlier blog.
